This Crash Response Supplement (this “Supplement”) is subject to the Miles Terms of Service available at mileslabs.com/policies/terms-of-service (the “Terms”). In the event of a conflict between this Supplement and the Terms of Service, the Terms of Service shall control. Please review the Terms of Service closely, as the Terms contain disclaimers of warranties, limitations of liability, mandatory arbitration and a class action waiver, among other important terms governing your use of the Services.
In an emergency, always call 911 yourself. Crash Response is an assistive convenience feature, not an emergency service, and not a substitute for calling 911.
1. What Crash Response is
Crash Response is part of the Miles Guard Membership. The Miles Plug device watches signals for events that look like a vehicle crash. When it detects a suspected crash, Miles alerts the Monitoring Provider, a professional monitoring and dispatch center, which then works to reach you and, if needed, to request emergency help. Miles does not provide emergency, medical, fire, police, or ambulance services and does not dispatch responders itself.
2. Costs
There is no separate charge for a crash escalation beyond your Guard Membership. However, you are responsible for third-party costs that result from a response — such as ambulance, towing, or roadside. Standard message and data rates may apply.
3. How it works
- Detection. The device looks for patterns consistent with a serious crash. Detection generally needs enough speed before the event and may not occur for low-speed, stationary, or unusual incidents.
- Verification. When a possible crash is detected, the Monitoring Provider will attempt to contact you by phone to verify whether you need assistance. If you are reached and confirm you are safe, no further escalation occurs. If you cannot be reached or do not respond, the Monitoring Provider may escalate to emergency services and your designated emergency contacts.
- Escalation. If a serious crash is indicated, or you do not respond to the verification call, Miles sends the event to the Monitoring Provider. Based on the apparent severity, the Monitoring Provider may request emergency dispatch and attempt to reach you and your designated emergency contacts.
4. What is shared, and when
Miles shares information with the Monitoring Provider when a crash is escalated, as needed to coordinate a response. This may include, to the extent permitted by applicable laws, rules, and regulations:
- Your location and the time of the suspected crash; Your vehicle information (such as year, make, model, color, and license plate);
- Your name or account information;
- Your emergency contacts’ names and phone numbers; and
Information about the crash event, including severity. The Monitoring Provider may share relevant information with 911 / emergency responders. Miles protects this information with appropriate safeguards.
5. Emergency contacts
You can designate emergency contacts to be reached after a crash. By adding someone, you confirm you have their permission to be contacted and to share their name, relationship, and phone number for this purpose. You and your contacts may receive calls, texts, and notifications (including automated ones) in connection with a crash event. If a driver is a minor, the account owner provides consent on their behalf.
6. Important limits
- Crash Response is not a substitute for calling 911, and is not an emergency, medical, or life-safety service. Never delay calling 911 to wait for it.
- It may not detect a crash, may flag a crash that did not happen, may be unable to find your location, and may be unable to reach you, the Monitoring Provider, or responders.
- It depends on a working, charged device; a cellular, GPS, and data connection; the app’s permissions (location, motion/Bluetooth, notifications, background operation); and third parties Miles does not control, including the Monitoring Provider, wireless carriers, and 911 / responders.
- You are responsible for keeping your account, vehicle, and contact details accurate, for maintaining the device and permissions, and for cancelling false alarms when you can.
These are summarized here for convenience; the full limitations, your assumption of risk, and the disclaimers and releases are in Sections 7, 10, and 11 of the Terms of Service.
7. Not an insurer; consent to monitoring
By enabling Crash Response, you consent to monitoring of your device’s crash and motion signals by Miles and the Monitoring Provider and to the disclosures described above.
